Billy Andrade and Brad Faxon, through their charity Andrade-Faxon Charities for Children, will send kids to camp, pay for heating oil and electric utilities, purchase kids prescriptions, medical supplies, and nutritious meals, and will fund a children's fitness program in the year 2006.
Volunteer applications are now available for the 61st U.S. Women's Open Championship to be held June 26-July 2, 2006 at Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I. Potential volunteers are encouraged to submit their applications early. Volunteers can choose to work on one of more than 20 committees, including admissions, course evacuation, leaderboards, transportation/airport greeters and merchandise. Early submission of applications allows volunteers to specify their preference regarding their committee choice.
Rhode Island Governor Donald L. Carcieri struck a ceremonial first tee shot on September 4 to mark the official opening of the golf course at Shelter Harbor Golf Club, the first private golf club to open in South County, Rhode Island in 50 years. The back nine of the Michael Hurdzan-Dana Fry designed layout is now open, along with Shelter Harbor's 44,000-square-foot clubhouse, which opened in July. The front nine and practice facilities are scheduled to open in spring 2005.
