Over the years golf course architect and former PGA Tour player Tom Weiskopf has generated considerable acclaim for his golf course designs. His work for the 18-hole course at The Club at Spanish Peaks, a new residential development just an hour south of Bozeman, Mont., may surpass them all.
Construction is continuing at The Reserve, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Mont. Despite a heavy snow year, the site is almost completely free of snow, allowing construction to resume.
Pryor Creek Golf Club, a 27-hole facility in Huntley, Mont., is in the process of building another nine holes. Once completed in June 2006, the semiprivate club will become only the second 36-hole facility in Montana (the other is Whitefish Lake in the state’s Northwest corner).
I'm back after a prolonged absence. Maybe it was the mental evisceration of writer's block (see April 25's entry), or perhaps it was just trying to keep the content up on two websites (the other word eater is golfconstructionnews.com). But I feel recharged following a whirlwind six-day trip to Montana's Flathead Valley June 10-15. So here goes a glimpse of that underappreciated area of American golf - and other stuff.
