Past captains of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews have announced they've nominated Hamish M.J. Ritchie as captain for 2008-09. Ritchie will assume the office during the traditional "Driving In" ceremony on September 18 on the first tee of the Old Course.

South African Teen Coming to America

Ashleigh Simon of South Africa has accepted a sponsor's exemption to the second annual Ginn Tribute Hosted by Annika. The $2.6 million event will again be played at RiverTowne Country Club in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., May 26 through June 1.

One of the most respected woman golfers of the last 40 years is to be honored by the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Renee Powell, a pioneering player, coach, educator and goodwill ambassador will be awarded an honorary degree by the university this summer.
