The Donald Ross Course at French Lick (Ind.) is open to resort guests and visitors for its first full season. The course, recently named a finalist for Golf Inc. magazine's 2007 Renovation of the Year, is accompanied by a new 60,000-square-foot Sports Center, which offers a 10-station indoor driving range and indoor putting green, video swing analysis and five resurfaced tennis courts. The Sports Center is open seven days a week from noon to 8 p.m.
Travis Smith, a gifted sophomore on the Ball State University golf team, was tragically killed in a traffic accident earlier this winter just a few blocks from the Muncie, Ind., college campus. As a true freshman, Travis played in 18 competitive rounds for the Cardinals, including the 2006 Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, one of the NCAA's premier tournaments. Ball State placed third out of 16 teams, its best showing the entire fall season.
Michael Lunsford, president and owner of WLT Corporation, has announced the sale of The Players Club Golf Course in Yorktown to Ken and Judy Myers and David and Bridget Myers. The ownership change went into effect on March 24.
Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind., near Indianapolis, has been selected to host the 2007 U.S. Women's Amateur championship, the United States Golf Association has announced. The championship will be played from August 6-12. Crooked Stick Golf Club was designed by Pete Dye and opened in 1964.
