Work Continues on Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Club near Niagara Falls

Work continues on the new 18-hole Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Club in Lewiston, N.Y. The course, situated just 20 minutes north of Niagara Falls, is being developed by the Seneca Nation of Indians. KemperSports is overseeing the planning, development and operation of the development.
The designer of the layout, named for the rare and distinct Shellbark Hickory trees found along the course, is the Robert Trent Jones II, LLC architecture firm. The par-72 track will feature manicured landscapes surrounded by lakes and ponds. The 7,100-yard course will weave through native vegetation, wetlands and open meadows and is being designed for the walking golfer.
Construction commenced on Seneca Hickory Stick in June 2007 and, if all goes well, it will open in 2009. Future plans include a spacious clubhouse and pavilion for hospitality functions and special events.
"We look forward to working alongside the Seneca Nation and RTJ II design firm to create a must-play destination golf course in western New York," said KemperSports President and COO Steve Skinner. "Niagara Falls and the surrounding area is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and we plan to broaden its reputation as a must-visit locale with the debut of Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Club."
Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Club marks the first project developed by the Seneca Nation off of its sovereign territory. The property was secured with the intention of developing a high-end golf course to complement the Nation's gaming and entertainment facilities, including Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel, located in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
