Work Continues on Newport Beach and Golf Resort Community

Developers of Newport Beach and Golf, a 1,800-acre resort community on Mustang Island in Texas, have reported that work is proceeding nicely on the Arnold Palmer Signature Course located within the resort, and it is scheduled to open in spring 2008.

The 18-hole layout, named Newport Dunes, is part of the first phase of construction at the coastal destination, which will ultimately boast residential villages, multiple hotels, a marina, tennis and beach clubs, two golf courses and recreational amenities on Mustang Island, located on the south end of Port Aransas.

The designer of Newport Dunes, Arnold Palmer, visited Newport Dunes in April to gauge the course's progress and meet with resort developers Craig Millard and Charles Castor of Texas Gulf & Harbor Ltd. "Newport Dunes is the most unique golf course design I have constructed because it is my first true ocean location, and it is designed in a Scottish-style," said Palmer, whose company has designed more than 300 courses and clubs around the world.

Surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico and Corpus Christi Bay, Newport Dunes will play to a par 72 and offer outstanding vistas and ornamental landscapes. "The course is a hidden gem that is certainly going to draw some attention from local, regional and national golfers alike," said Palmer.

Assisting with the development is Northbrook, Ill.-based KemperSports, the golf management and development company selected to operate Newport Dunes. "KemperSports shares our vision to make Newport Beach and Golf a world-class Gulf Coast destination," said Millard. "We look forward to a thriving partnership with them and with the entire first-rate team that has been assembled to make this golf course and resort a reality."
