Work Continues on Large Project Near Wilmington, N.C.

Construction is underway on a 27-hole private course called Cape Fear National. The golf facility is part of Brunswick Forest, a 4,500-acre master-planned community situated five miles south of historic downtown Wilmington in southeast North Carolina.

In late October, the project's backer, Brunswick Forest LLC, announced it selected KemperSports to oversee the development of the course. The first 18 holes of Cape Fear National are slated to open in spring 2009, with the third nine in spring 2010.

The course architect is Tim Cate, who enjoys an extensive portfolio of Carolina layout. Cape Fear National will wind through terrain featuring mature cypress, pine, maple, oak and magnolia trees. Preserved wetlands, lakes and meadowlands are integrated into the plan.

"We are excited to introduce a world-class destination to North Carolina's Cape Fear coast," said Jimmy Sloan, chief operations officer of Brunswick Forest LLC. "Cape Fear National will play an integral role in this development, and we look forward to creating a memorable golf experience working with KemperSports."

Complementing the course will be a clubhouse with banquet and meeting rooms, a golf shop, locker rooms, and bar and grill. The development also includes a fitness-wellness center, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, community gardens, landscaped parks and preserves, and miles of walking and biking trails. In addition, Brunswick Forest will offer the River Club, a center for boating and fishing activities, and a commercial village along Ocean Highway that will contain shops, restaurants, entertainment and professional services.

"We are thrilled to be a part of such a dynamic project," said Steve Skinner, president and COO of KemperSports, which will also provide pre-development consulting in addition to operations management of Cape Fear National. "Among our goals is to provide the first-class service and course conditions that will establish Cape Fear National as one of the leading recreational opportunities in the Carolinas."
