Work Continues at Brunswick Forest and Cape Fear National

Work is progressing on Brunswick Forest, a master-planned community in Leland, a town situated 10 minutes south of Wilmington, N.C. The 4,500-acre development is off U.S. Highway 17. If all goes well, the 18-hole Cape Fear National will open later this fall.

The private Tim Cate-designed layout will feature more than 1,500 linear feet of bridges, three waterfalls, several ponds, rock walls, drive-through sand-waste areas, beach bunkers, native grasses, wax myrtles and wildflowers. Future plans include another nine holes.

"Cape Fear National is so far beyond what golfers have ever experienced in this region," said Cate. "I am very proud of what has been accomplished with this layout and feel confident that Cape Fear National will be rated one of the top courses in this region."

Cate said the course has no signature holes, responding, "Depending on who you ask, there are five holes on the original 18-hole design that could be considered signature holes."

Another project team member is Northbrook, Ill.-based KemperSports, a golf management and development company selected to operate the course in October 2007.

Complementing the course will be a clubhouse featuring spacious banquet and meeting rooms, a golf shop, locker rooms, and bar and grill. In addition to the course, Brunswick Forest boasts a recently completed, 18,000-square-foot Wellness and Fitness Center, and more than 100 miles of hiking, biking and nature trails, and three neighborhood parks.

Construction is underway on a 40,000-square-foot medical office building that will house New Hanover Regional Medical Center physicians, diagnostic and other outpatient facilities. The Villages at Brunswick Forest is a 160-acre town center comprised of more than 500,000 square feet of retail and professional establishments.

The community offers a wide variety of homes, town homes and lots. Since opening 24 months ago, Brunswick Forest has drawn more than 467 families. Lots begin at $150,000; homes are priced from the mid-$260,000s. For more information, call 888/371-2434 or visit www.brunswickforest.com.
