Wood River Golf – Affordable and Fun

The first nine holes of Wood River Golf in Hopkinton, Rhode Island opened last June; the second nine will be ready for golfers in spring 2001. Upcoming plans include a clubhouse and restaurant.

The site occupies a 125-acre parcel formerly known as Chickadee Farms. Kate and Wes Thompson bought the property and, together with designer Richard A. Greene, are restoring five old barns and buildings and building three new houses on the property. The project may also include storage units and artist studios.

Bounded by its namesake Wood River, the course involves freshwater wetlands, upland woods and agricultural fields. The facility offers reasonably priced greens fees and a moderately challenging course. The debut of Wood River has increased Hopkinton’s list of courses to three.
