Where Wildlife and Golf Enthusiasts Play
In 1984, a plan was set into motion to build a beautiful and environmentally friendly golf course on the flanks of Jack Creek. Salmon Run Golf Course opened for business in December 1999. Today, Salmon Run is a jewel in Curry County that has golfers, environmentalists, and outdoor enthusiasts smiling.
Designed and constructed with the environment in mind, Salmon Run Golf is as beautiful to play in, as it is mindful to its surroundings. Located on Jack Creek, the tributary of the Chetco River, Salmon Run is nestled along the most productive salmon stream in Curry County - and the owners made serious efforts to see that it stays that way. Teaming with Chinook, or king salmon, the dulcet flow of Jack Creek is the perfect background harmony to 18 holes of scenic splendor. Located in Brookings, Oregon, one can enjoy a unique experience at Salmon Run Golf Course.
Salmon Run General Manager Pete Pavich says, "[The] groomed fairways contrast beautifully with the rugged hillsides surrounding the wooded valley; which hosts numerous bird species, elk, and other wildlife." It is a very natural setting of woods and wildlife, which is a delightful change of atmosphere from the common course. At the same time, nestled amongst the foliage and trees is a meticulously groomed course that is top-notch.
It is a “championship course that champions of all levels play. Many things make it an enjoyable and masterful golf experience. The 18-hole, par 72 layout is 5,396 yards from the forward tees, and over 6,500 yards from the tips. Its signature hole is a distinctive par-three 4th, which has an island green. Follow the scenic switchback path up an adjacent hillside, to one of Oregon’s most picturesque tee shots.
There are extra amenities, such as a full service pro shop, a complete line of golf apparel and sets of tees on every hole. You can also receive group and private instructions to perfect your game in Salmon Run’s pristine surroundings. There is also a warm-up range to enjoy, in order to insure the proper performance out on the green.
The distinctiveness of Salmon Run is enchanting. Not only the appearance, but in disposition as well. The golf course has had strong community support from the beginning. Brookings Parks and the Recreation Commissioner said that when he visited Salmon Run, “The water was cleaner than I’ve ever seen it.” Salmon Run also boasts a delightful course staff, many of which are family members who live for the game of golf. The staff’s enthusiasm for golf is infectious and their knowledge of golf is appreciated. The Salmon Run Golf Course has a character and charm that will bring you back.
The weather there is uncommonly fantastic for Oregon. Being located in the southern “Banana Belt” means mild sunny days while the rest of the Northwest Coast will be experiencing fog and showers.
