Weldon Rump asks, ‘Why are you qualified to write this book?’

By: Jeffrey D. Brauer

Here are some of the reasons I feel I am qualified to write this book:

I have been a golf course architect since 1977. This is my 25th year designing courses, and I think I learned a few things along the way. Actually, taking the time to write down some of my philosophies is an aid to continued learning, so bear with me.

I apprenticed under a well-respected golf design firm for seven years to learn the basics, and have had my own design company since 1984. I have designed 45 courses of all types, and been involved with renovating about twice that number.

I have been a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects since 1981, and served as president of that distinguished group in 1995 – an indication my peers see at least something in my abilities.

If all of that doesn't convince you, perhaps these following pictures will.

This is my ass . . .

And this is a big hole in the ground! We dug this hole to supply sand as topsoil for the first course at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, Minnesota, and built the second course, particularly the seventh hole shown below, around it.
