Weed Design Opens at Green Cove Springs

Residents of the new Fleming Island Plantation attended the grand opening of a Bobby Weed-designed course last September. Located just south of Jacksonville in the growing city of Orange Park, the Golf Club at Fleming Island was Weed’s fourth course to open in the U.S. last year. The layout features a blend of tree-lined holes that weave through wetlands and offer challenging approach shots on some holes, while others involve no forced carries.

“Fleming Island was fun because the back nine was really carved out of the forest and it was all preserved and backed up to Black Creek,” Weed told Cybergolf. “The area is very native and natural without a lot of home sites. We had good sand to work with and we built a good mix of golf holes,” he added.

The course is within a community under development by Landscapes Unlimited of Lincoln, Nebraska. Centex Homes is building the residences, and much of the community is complete. The clubhouse was finished in November. Walk-on guests can play the semiprivate facility for $45 during the week and $50 on weekends, cart included.
