Valley Course at Desert Springs Resort Set to Reopen
JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, Calif., will reopen its Ted Robinson-designed Valley course at the end of October following a $1.5 million renovation that began in May.
The unveiling of the remodeled Valley course - which will join the Palm course that underwent an extensive facelift and reopened last October - completes a resort-wide $25 million renovation and readies it for the facility's silver anniversary.
Both the Palm and Valley courses were designed by the late Ted Robinson, known as "King of Waterscapes." The resort worked with Robinson's son, Ted Jr., to restore many details of his father's original design. The updated Palm and Valley courses include all-new USGA-specification greens along with new bunkers and tees. The details include:
• The greens now feature USGA-specification Tiff-eagle grass for better putting surfaces.
• All tees have all been laser-leveled and re-grassed.
• The bunkers and surrounds have been reshaped to cause errant shots to find them. Many fairway bunkers were also moved closer to the center of the fairway to narrow landing areas. Several new bunkers have been added to better define the holes and make them more challenging.
"We are excited to introduce the all-new Palm and Valley courses to our valued guests," said John Faulk, director of golf at JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa. "We are confident that the updated courses, restored in the spirit of Robinson's father's original design, will continue to offer guests an unrivaled golf experience."
In addition to updates to the Valley and Palm courses, the resort's $25 million renovation included a refreshing of its 884 guestrooms and suites; the addition of Rockwood Grill & Blue Star Lounge and Fisherman's Landing as new dining options; and the opening of new retail outlets, including Sunnyland Chocolate Factory, Desert Shades, and Wallet World.
