Upgrades Planned for Buffalo Grove’s Arboretum Course
In March 2001, officials for the Village of Buffalo Grove, Illinois were moving forward with a $6.9-million plan to remodel the city’s Arboretum Golf Course. The project includes a new maintenance building, clubhouse and improvements to the course. Work will begin this spring on the $1.1-million maintenance building. Construction on the 18,000-square-foot clubhouse will not start until the end of the 2001 golf season.
The renovations also include upgrades to the golf course, a 1990-built layout designed by the acclaimed Dick Nugent. The 6,400-yard track currently boasts a 71.1 rating and a 132 slope from the tips. Planned course improvements include an enhancement to the drainage. The proposed one-story clubhouse will include banquet facilities, a grill and a pro shop.
The city is now investigating financing options. To see the entire project to fruition, the city may borrow $4.5 million and pay for the remainder of it with money available in the village’s corporate fund. The loan will be paid off by revenues gained through green fee increases and the expected boost in course usage. Officials also said a slight tax increase may be needed. The entire project may be completed in spring 2003.
