Tseng Grabs Victory in Australian Open

Taiwan's Yani Tseng closed with a scintillating 7-under 66 to win the women's Australian Open at Commonwealth Golf Course. Ranked No. 6 in the world, the 21-year-old Tseng won by three shots.

Among those she beat were defending champion Laura Davies and four-time champion Karrie Webb. Tseng finished at 9-under 283, edging England's Davies (71), who ended up alone in second at 6-under 286.

Finishing another stroke back at 5-under was third-round leader Webb, who closed with a disappointing 1-over 74. Yet another shot back were Australia's Katherine Hull (72) and Italian Giulia Sergas (74).

Tseng carded seven birdies over her final 12 holes in her romp to victory. "Last night I said to my caddie that I felt I was going to play really good today," she said. "I just really felt I could make a putt.

"I changed my grip on Friday and then I could really feel the speed on these greens because this is a really tough course and you just need to be patient. I just kept telling myself that ball is going to go in that hole . . . I was always positive."

The win was Tseng's first since the LPGA Corning Classic last April, but it was her fifth worldwide and the biggest since her title in the 2008 LPGA Championship.
