Trinity River Golf Tour Formed in North Texas

The golf divisions of the city of Arlington and city of Fort Worth, Texas have banded together to create the Trinity River Golf Tour, a circuit of tournaments in the two municipalities designed to entice participation of some of the area's top amateur players while showcasing seven of the cities' golf courses.

The tour will be conducted at multiple golf facilities, including Fort Worth's Pecan Valley, Rockwood, Meadowbrook and Z. Boaz golf courses and Arlington's Tierra Verde, Lake Arlington and Ditto golf courses.

There will be monthly competitions in men's open, women's, seniors, juniors and team divisions beginning in April 2010 and concluding with the tour championships in October 2010, with no course played more than once per division.

Competitions will be flighted and limited to 80 to 100 entrants, depending on the facility used that month in each division. Entry is open to all players in and around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. There will be a one-time membership fee of $30 for all players and entry fees of $75 per event entered.

"Fort Worth Golf is very excited about partnering with Arlington Golf to provide first-class tournaments for those who enjoy competitive golf," said Nancy Bunton, who helms the City of Fort Worth's Golf division. "By having five divisions and flighting the individual events, we feel there will plenty of competitive opportunities for golfers to play great amateur events in their own backyard."

The Trinity River Golf Tour is the brainchild of Phyllis Jordan, the head professional at the City of Arlington's Lake Arlington Golf Course.

"There has been something missing as far as a series of top-notch tournaments for the amateur golfers in the Arlington and Fort Worth areas," said Jordan, who has been at Lake Arlington since August 2007. "With these events, we can fill that gap as well as bring golfers to our different courses that might not have played at them for a while. This is a chance to showcase our courses and spur interest in our facilities while providing excellent golf in outstanding conditions."

The Trinity River Golf Tour will strive to be recognized as the premier competitive golf experience for amateur golfers in the state of Texas and to provide a golf venue that will attract a diverse player base from around the Dallas-Fort Worth area who have a desire to play competitive golf, thus affording the City of Fort Worth and Arlington the opportunity to gain additional business and exposure.

"To that end," said Evonne Sandas, Arlington Golf's director of golf, "the City of Arlington and Fort Worth will conduct events in such a manner that players experience all the elements one would expect from a superior tour event. These tournaments will deliver excellent course conditions and exceptional customer service levels that will enhance the perception of municipal golf courses."
