Tom Watson to Conduct Clinic at Harbor Shores August 8

Eight-time major winner and 2011 Senior PGA champion, Tom Watson, will conduct a golf clinic at the Golf Club at Harbor Shores on Monday, August 8, from 8:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. EST. The clinic is open to the general public and tickets cost $30. All proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Benton Harbor and the First Tee of Benton Harbor.

Watson will share comments from his book, "Lessons of a Lifetime," with spectators. The book outlines lessons he learned from childhood through adulthood. In the clinic Watson will break down the basic skills needed to play good golf.

"Tom Watson is one of the truly great golfers of all time and a wonderful teacher of the game," said Aaron Williams, general manager of the Golf Club at Harbor Shores. "We're pleased to host this unique golf instruction opportunity."

Pat Moody, host of "Moody in the Morning" on WSJM radio (AM 1400, FM 94.9), will emcee the event.

Watson is familiar with the Golf Club at Harbor Shores and the Benton Harbor area as he was one of the four players, along with Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Johnny Miller, who participated in Champions for Change, the grand opening for the golf course held last August.

Watson has 39 PGA Tour victories and 14 Champions Tour wins to his credit. He has won five British Opens, two Masters and a U.S. Open. In 2009, nearing 60 years old, he led the British Open much of the way and captured the attention of the sports world before losing in a playoff to Stewart Cink.

Tickets for the clinic may be purchased at the Golf Club at Harbor Shores Pro Shop (269/927-4653) at 400 Klock Road, Benton Harbor, Mich., or at the Discovery Center (269/932-1600) at 301 State Street in nearby Saint Joseph.

Tickets must be purchased (cash only) and picked up by 5:00 p.m. August 5th at either location. Tickets will not be sold on the day of the event and seating will be limited.

Parking for the event will be located on Graham Avenue in Benton Harbor or in the downtown Arts District. Handicapped-accessible parking may be found at the Golf Club at Harbor Shores.
