Tiger to Return & Defend Title at Memorial

Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that he'll return to go for two straight titles in the Jack Nicklaus-hosted Memorial Tournament. The $6.2 million PGA Tour event will be played May 30 through June 2 at the Nicklaus-designed Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.

"It's an honor to come back here as defending champion," Woods said in a statement. "It's always great to win a tournament, but when it's Jack's, it's extra special. I look forward to the Memorial every year, and Jack does everything he can to make it an outstanding event."

Woods cemented his position as the world's No. 1-ranked golfer after posting his fourth victory of the year on Sunday in the Players Championship.

The victory, the 78th of his storied career, gave him a huge lead in the season-long FedEx Cup points' standings. Woods is 866 points ahead of second-place Brandt Snedeker.

Woods has enjoyed considerable success at the Memorial, logging five titles. In addition to his triumph last year, the other victories came in 2009 and a three-year stretch between 1999 and 2001.
