Steve Williams Angry at Boss; Nicklaus Thinks Tiger will Return for Masters
In New Zealand's version of "60 Minutes," Steve Williams, the caddie for Tiger Woods, said he had no clue about his boss's extramarital affairs until after they came to light.
"It's been the most difficult time of my life, no two ways about it, because every single person believed that I should know or did know or had something to do with it," Williams said.
"I knew nothing, that's my answer. I don't have to clarify or extend that answer. I knew nothing. It would be very difficult as a caddie not to know, but I'm 100% telling you, I did not know, and that's that."
He also said he would have done something about it, had he been aware of Tiger's affairs. "If I had known something was going on, the whistle would have been blown," Williams said. "Of course I'm mad at him, why would you not be? I'm close with his wife, and he's got two lovely children, and he's let them down."
Despite his surprise and anger, Williams said he still considers Woods a friend and will continue to work for him when he returns to golf.
Nicklaus Speaks Out
During the Honda Classic Pro-Am, Jack Nicklaus said he'd be surprised if Woods isn't back for next month's Masters - and not just for the Champions Dinner.
"I couldn't imagine in 100 years that he is going to miss Augusta," the Golden Bear said Wednesday at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Nicklaus has been reluctant to speak in public about Woods' situation. But Nicklaus made an educated guess about the player who, with 14 major titles, is chasing his all-time record of 18. The guess is the Masters, the first major championship of the year.
Nicklaus also expects Woods to be ready to play. "As a golfer, he'll come back and get his game in shape and play," he said. "That's what he does."
