Snedeker & Day Share Lead in Deutsche Bank Championship

Brandt Snedeker carded a 7-under 64 to share the second-round lead of the Deutsche Bank Championship with first-round co-leader Jason Day of Australia. Day shot a 4-under 67.

The two are tied at 12-under 130 in the second event in the four-tournament FedEx Cup playoffs. Matt Kuchar, who won The Barclays, the first playoff event last week, shot a 65 at TPC Boston Saturday and is tied for third with Charley Hoffman (67) at 131.

"I played really well from pretty much every facet of the game today and made a lot of putts, which was very nice," Snedeker said. "I hit the ball really well yesterday and just didn't seem to make a whole lot, and today I made everything I looked at, so that was a nice way to get through the day.

"The wind made it a little tougher out there today, but still, a lot of birdie opportunities and the course is playing perfect right now. The greens are relatively soft. The greens are perfect to roll on, so if you're hitting your lines you can make a lot of putts, and fortunately enough I did it today, so it was nice."

The players managed to avoid major havoc from Hurricane Earl, and they took advantage of the soft but not too difficult conditions. "I think we only got like half an inch of rain last night, which was nice," Day said.

"But the course is playing just as good as yesterday. The greens were receptive. The wind dried it out a little bit this afternoon, which was nice," Day added. "There was only a few wet patches out there. But the course soaked it up pretty well, and it was pretty much playing the same as yesterday firmness-wise."

Luke Donald, with rounds of 65 and 67, is alone in fifth at 132, while defending champion Steve Stricker (68) and D.J. Trahan (69) are at 9-under 133.

Tiger Woods came back after his opening 1-over 72 with a 65 Saturday; he's at 5-under 137, seven shots behind the leaders.

Woods owed his improved play to simply getting in more rounds and, of course, better putting. "It's getting better. I've seen more reps. It takes time. Just like this whole change, any change you make, it's going to take time, and just continue to do reps. I hit it good today and made a few putts, which was nice."

Day's fellow co-leader after 18 holes, Zach Johnson, shot an even-par 71 and is at 134, still well within the lead.
