Second Round of Sybase Classic Washed Out

The Sybase Classic will be a 54-hole event after the second round of the tournament in Clifton, N.J., was canceled Friday due to bad weather and unplayable conditions at Upper Montclair Country Club.
Several players began play, but all scores for the day have been erased. The second round, weather permitting, will commence Saturday morning. The possibility of 36 holes in a day was discussed, but then dismissed. "There was that conversation," said Sue Witters, the LPGA Tour's director of tournament competitions. "The problem is our forecast on Sunday is not looking great, either. So that doesn't help us."
Annika Sorenstam will continue to share the lead at 5-under 67 with Song-Hee Kim and Rachel Hetherington. Both Hetherington and Catriona Matthew had reached 6-under when play was suspended, but will return to their original positions at 5-under-par and 4-under, respectively.
"Usually when you're under par, you don't want it erased and when you're over, you do want it erased," said Hetherington. "It's the same for everybody. It's a shame that we have had to wipe out a day unfortunately, but yeah, it was a pretty big rain system over us."
Tied with Matthew are world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa, Carolina Llano, Brittany Lang, Teresa Lu and Pat Hurst.
