Seattle Golf Show Set to Start

The Seattle Golf Show, being held March 16-18 at Qwest Field Event Center, has become an established tradition among the Pacific Northwest’s business and golfing community, and the community is responding again this year. University of Washington head football coach Tyrone Willingham will be appearing in the show’s TV commercials. Giving clinics at the show will be Hall of Fame instructor Bill Tindall and one of Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers in America, Joe Thiel.
Coach Willingham agreed to appear in the commercial because of the benefit the event provides the game in the region, specifically junior golf programs. The event is owned by the Pacific Northwest Section of the PGA, which raises money at the show for some of the First Tee programs in the area, and by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association, which raises funds for the Evans Scholars Foundation, a scholarship program for caddies, several of whom attend the University of Washington. The commercial can be viewed on the event’s website.
Appearing on the show’s main stage will be Thiel, who will give a clinic on the Saturday of the show. Along with his recognition by Golf Magazine, Thiel is a three-time PGA Teacher of the Year for the Pacific Northwest Section of the PGA. He’s also one of the few professionals given the PGA Master Professional designation, and is a founder of the World Wide Golf Schools in Olympia, Wash.
Tindall will also be giving a clinic on the stage. The director of golf at the Tom Doak-designed Tumble Creek course at Suncadia in Roslyn, Wash., Tindall is a member of the Pacific Northwest Section PGA Hall of Fame. One of the most popular club pros in the Northwest, he was the head pro at Seattle’s Broadmoor Golf Club for years, then became the director of golf at the Members Club at Aldarra east of Seattle.
Other highlights of the show include:
* “Beat the Anchor” day on Saturday, March 17, which is a closest-to-the-pin contest on the turf of Qwest Field – hit your shot inside KOMO Radio’s Bill Yeend’s and be entered to win a golf vacation package.
* The first 5,000 paying adults each day will receive a free round of golf from the golf course at Port Ludlow, McCormick Woods, Classic Golf Club, or Mount Si.
* The first 200 paying adults each day receive a free sleeve of the new Bridgestone balls.
* The 50-foot putt is offering a free round of golf at Suncadia to all who make it and a chance at the $10,000 prize.
