Schulz Leads in Pebble Beach

Ted Schulz fired 8-under 64 at Pebble Beach to take the 36-hole lead in the Home Care & Hospice First Tee Open on the Monterey Peninsula.

The two-time winner on the regular PGA Tour had nine birdies at Pebble Beach - including six on the back nine en route to a 5-under 31 that included a bogey, forging a three-shot lead over first-round leader Mark Calcavecchia (71) and Tom Kite (68).

The 50-year-old Schulz has only conditional status on the Champions Tour and will be looking for a win Sunday to secure a position on the over-50 circuit.

Two-time champion Jeff Sluman had a 71, while Tom Watson, who turned 61 Saturday, came back after an opening 73 with a 67.

The tournament features 78 players paired with a junior player. The top 22 pro-junior teams and top 10 amateur teams will advance to the final round at Pebble Beach on Sunday.
