Rose Creek Golf Club Opens In Edmond, Okla.

By: Jeff Shelley
On September 25, 2003, a grand opening was held for a new upscale daily-fee course in Edmond, Okla. The Melrose Company, a golf community development company headquartered in Hilton Head Island, S.C., joined up with golf course architects Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest & Associates and management company, Troon Golf, to open Rose Creek Golf Club. The layout is located 20 minutes northwest of downtown Oklahoma City and Will Rogers World Airport.
The ceremony included welcoming remarks from Melrose CEO Bob Kolb, Art Hills and Troon Golf chairman Dana Garmany. “We will have the privilege of introducing this wonderful place (Rose Creek) to invited media and VIP guests,” said Hills in discussing his latest work of art.
Rose Creek will operate as an upscale daily-fee facility, where players of various skills will enjoy the links-style layout and a large practice facility. Fairways wind through rolling terrain and past tree-lined creeks and native grasses. Over 50 bunkers add to the challenge, while water enters play on 12 holes.
Forrest, Hills’ partner of 25 years, said that “Rose Creek has some incredible natural features.” Explained Forrest, the highlights include, “the picturesque third hole which is a challenging, downhill par-5 where players must navigate their way around meandering creeks to a lovely green setting accented by sprawling live oaks. The devilish sixth hole is a short par-4 that requires accuracy off the tee to avoid the troublesome fairway bunkering. A deft approach shot to a green surrounded by a serpent-like brook and native Southwestern-style wasteland is required for any chance at a birdie.
“The finishing hole at Rose Creek,” continued Forrest, “offers plenty of variety as players will be faced with the task of deciding whether or not to go for the green in two over the serene but punishing lake that sits below the clubhouse on the double-dogleg par 5. This place is special. I am excited for the residents and for those with the opportunity to play this new gem.”
