Reservoir Creek Ready to Play

Reservoir Creek Golf Course in Naples, New York opened last June. The course came to fruition thanks to planning of the land owner, Diane Kochendorfer. Prior to construction of the $3-million semiprivate course in 1998, Kochendorfer raised seed money for the project by selling “membership loans” and raising funds through other creative ways.

The financial backing has borne out with the development of a fine course. The 169-acre, 6,300-yard Reservoir Creek layout features hilly, wooded terrain as well as several secluded holes, a 300-foot elevation change, and scenes of Naples Valley from several perched tees. Golfers need good short games as they must overcome 74 grass bunkers; sand will eventually fill the greenside traps. Other impediments to par are five ponds and Reservoir Creek across three holes.

Reservoir Creek was designed by project manager Bob North and developed by Ed Benoit and Blaine Harrison. Benoit’s other New York courses include Shadow Pine, Shadow Lake and Greystone. The clubhouse is a remodeled Victorian home with an oak interior and a bar. A 55-foot deck sprawls around the back of the structure and faces the ninth green. The pro shop sits nearby in a renovated century-old barn.
