Rain Thwarts LPGA Tour Championship, Ochoa Still Leads

First-round leader Lorena Ochoa never even teed off Friday in the LPGA Tour Championship as rain swept across Houstonian Golf and Country Club in Texas.

The deluge occurred early in the morning and pushed back the start of the second round six hours. Soon after play began, light rain came down and then darkness halted play without Ochoa, who opened with a 6-under 66, ever making it to the first tee.

Reilly Rankin, who opened with a 67, is still a shot back without starting play Friday. Sweden's Sophie Gustafson, who opened with a 70, was 4-under through 11 holes when play was stopped. She's tied with Taylor Leon - who also didn't start Friday - for third.

Officials say the forecast looks good enough to complete the LPGA's final event of the year on its designated Sunday finish.

Ochoa will need an excellent final 54 holes to overtake Jiyai Shin and win her fourth straight Player of the Year award. Shin, who opened with a 70 and did not start her second round, leads Ochoa by a slim margin. The South Korean has already sewn up the Rookie of the Year award.
