Pronghorn Hires Female Superintendent at New Fazio Course

The developers of Pronghorn, a private golf community near Bend, Ore., announced they’ve hired Jennifer Fisher to be the superintendent of its new Tom Fazio Championship Golf Course. The course is slated to open this August.
Located on 640 acres and surrounded by 20,000 acres of protected federal land, Pronghorn is the first community in the West to offer both a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course and a Tom Fazio track side-by-side. Following a nationwide search, Fisher was promoted from her post as assistant superintendent of Pronghorn’s Nicklaus course. That facility was recognized by Golf Digest as the No. 2 Best New Private Course of 2004 and as one of Travel + Leisure Golf’s Top-Ten Private Courses of 2004.
The Fazio course at Pronghorn will feature a visual "wow factor." The 7,462-yard, par-72 layout will also be home to one of the most unique holes in the Pacific Northwest. The par-3 eighth includes a 45-foot canyon and exposed lava tube.
"Jennifer has been instrumental in the success of our award-winning Nicklaus course, there is no doubt that she will ensure that our Fazio course offers one of the most distinctive and unique golf experiences in the world," said Thomas Hix, managing partner for the development group, Pronghorn Investors. "Her passion for golf coupled with her proven success in executing and maintaining exceptional course standards make her the perfect candidate for the job."
In her new post Fisher will join an elite group of only 68 female golf superintendents in the U.S., according to the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GSCAA). She will report directly to Pronghorn’s golf superintendent, John Anderson, and will be responsible for managing and scheduling daily course maintenance activities, including the fine tuning of construction, irrigation and planting. During Pronghorn’s peak season, Fisher will oversee a 30-person staff.
Fisher assisted with course construction and grow-in on the Nicklaus course. Prior to joining Pronghorn in 2003, Fisher advanced through a succession of positions, including a post as irrigation technician at the Tom Weiskopf-designed Broken Top Golf Club in Bend.
Fisher holds an associate’s degree in turf science from Central Oregon Community College. She studied landscape design and horticulture with an emphasis on plants native to the central and eastern regions of Oregon.
"I am honored to work in a community that celebrates its passion for natural landscapes and our native horticulture," said Fisher. "Pronghorn re-vegetates juniper tress, sagebrush and fescue – lending the Fazio course and the community an inherent natural beauty. The new course will also feature several of the most unique holes ever developed, and I am proud to help deliver the vision for this phenomenal course."
Fisher moved to Eastern Oregon in 1989 and, 10 years later, relocated to Central Oregon. She grew up with an instilled love for the outdoors. When she isn’t working, Fisher can be found hiking, skiing, fishing, landscaping and exploring a passion for photography.
