Pound Ridge on Schedule |
|
William (Will) Heintz is the superintendent at Pound Ridge Golf Club in Pound Ridge, N.Y. Since April 2006, Heintz has directed the grow-in of the new 18-hole daily-fee course designed by Pete Dye.
"I consider my association with this course to be an opportunity of a lifetime for a superintendent," said Heintz. "It's an exciting project and, I predict, the course will attract golfers from all around the U.S. and the world. Area golfers will have a real gem on their doorstep."
Heintz, who has worked closely on all phases of the project with Dye and his son and co-designer Perry Dye, reports that the layout is on schedule for completion in late spring 2008. "The course will be finished seeding by mid-October," Heintz states. "To date, holes 6, 7, 8, 14, 15 and 16 are completed. July has brought much growth to the course and currently we are working on seeding the 5th, 9th and 13th holes. The 18th hole will be the last to be seeded, as it is the construction access point for the course."
Pound Ridge is Dye's first design project in New York. The course has been carved out of 172 acres of rocky cliffs, streams and wooded hills. Dye believes Pound Ridge will be one of his best designs, and in the words of the shaper who has worked with him for 20 years, the 16th is "one of the most visually stunning greens complexes that I've seen out of the 378 golf holes I've done!"
