Poipu Bay to Renovate Greens in 2010
Kauai's Poipu Bay Golf Course will undergo a greens-renovation project starting next spring. The course will be open through that time.
The greens renovation is scheduled to begin in April 2010, with the course closed for approximately eight months and a planned reopening in December 2010. The eight-month project involves a complete renovation of all greens, replacing the original Tifdwarf Bermuda grass with a Sea Shore Paspalum hybrid (Supreme).
"The Sea Shore Paspalum grass has proven to be an optimum putting surface in Hawaii," notes Charles "CJ" Rebb, Poipu Bay's superintendent. "It is also eco-friendly, requiring less fertilizer, less water, and a decreased use of herbicides."
"The new greens will provide a more consistent and faster putting surface for our guests," adds director of golf Craig Sasada. "We look forward to this project and the anticipated results."
Located on the Kauai's sunny south shore, the course was the home to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf from 1994 through 2006. Poipu Bay occupies 210 oceanfront acres on Kauai's southern coast, adjacent to the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa. A Robert Trent Jones Jr. design, Poipu Bay opened in 1991 and over the years been ranked among the top golf courses in Hawaii.
