Play Golf America Day Set for Haggin Oaks

The organizers of Play Golf America, a nationwide initiative designed to bring new players to golf, have set Friday, May 19th, as California’s Play Golf America Day. The event will be held at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex (located off Capital City Freeway at Fulton Avenue) in Sacramento. Free to the general public, this second annual Play Golf America Day will run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., with registration starting at 8 a.m.
While promoting good health and exercise, it will be a day packed with a variety of golf activities. Attendees will have access to more than 40 PGA and LPGA professional instructors. Video-swing analysis will also be available. Free clinics will be conducted throughout the day on all facets of the game and are open to players of all skills.
Participants will learn about upcoming clinics and classes that are posted on the Play Golf America website: www.playgolfamerica.com. Attendees can also play nine holes of golf for free on the Arcade Creek Golf Course. Registration for golf will take place at 8 a.m.
"Our Play Golf America Day welcomes everyone from newcomers to former players wanting to reconnect with the game," states NCPGA Executive Director Chris Thomas. "From free golf instruction on the lesson tee to a nine-hole, on-course golf experience, Haggin Oaks Golf Complex is the place to be on May 19th." Adding to the day will be a Cobra/Pinnacle Long-Drive Team exhibition with an appearance from Vince Howell.
Several leading equipment manufacturers (Callaway, Cobra, Nike Golf, MacGregor, Ping, Titleist, Pinnacle, and Top Flite/Hogan) will be on-site with some of their newest products. Participants can try out the clubs on the range, wedges at the chipping area and putters on the practice green. Trained reps will provide product background, club-fitting and launch monitor services. Wilson Golf will present a free golf club to the first 1,500 new golfers in attendance at the event. Returning golfers interested in purchasing new equipment can trade-in old clubs towards the purchase of new equipment at the Haggin Oaks Golf Super Shop.
Play Golf America Day is supported by the PGA of America, Northern California PGA, Northern California Golf Association, California Golf Course Superintendents Association, city of Sacramento, and PGA Magazine. Other companies supporting the event include Hogan, Imperial Headwear, Lexus of Sacramento, Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship, Frank La Rosa & Associates, Morton Golf, Nicklaus Golf, Pepsi, Sport Haley and Wilson Golf.
