PGA of America Approves Use of Distance-Measuring Devices
The PGA of America's Board of Directors has granted the use of distance-measuring devices at all Playing Ability Tests used for prospective PGA membership, along with selected member championships during the winter and at the Section levels.
The new policy for the Playing Ability Tests (PAT) begins August 1st. The board directed that distance-measuring devices may be used at the following PGA of America events without jeopardizing the integrity of the game:
* PGA Winter Championships
* PGA Tournament Series
* Section PGA Professional Championships at the host Section's option
* Section Senior PGA Professional Championships and Section Assistant Professional Championships at the host Section's option
* Section Qualifying Championships for the PGA McGladrey Team Championship
* All Playing Ability Tests
Distance-measuring devices will continue to be prohibited for the PGA Professional National Championship, the Callaway Golf Senior PGA Professional National Championship, the TaylorMade-adidas Golf PGA Assistant Professional Championship, the PGA McGladrey National Championship and the Junior PGA Championship.
