Perry Wins John Deere Classic
Kenny Perry is on a hot streak. After finishing tied in regulation with Brad Adamonis and Jay Williamson, the Kentuckian parred the first playoff hole to win the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Ill. The victory is Perry's third in his past five tournaments.
Perry had a one-stroke lead late Sunday but bogeyed the 72nd hole to fall into a tie at 16-under 268. On the first playoff hole, the 18th, both Adamonis and Williamson hit their approaches into a pond. Perry's effort stayed dry, and he had a short tap-in to secure the win, the 12th of his career. The victory was worth $756,000.
Perry is now third in the FedEx Cup standings behind Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Instead of traveling to Great Britain to play in the Open Championship, Perry will be heading to the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee.
To ensure he earns a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team, Perry is playing courses that he feels best suits his game. Not a big fan of links courses, Perry has assured a place on the American team, which will compete against the Europeans at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, about 40 miles from his birthplace.
