Ochoa Leads LPGA Championship


Lorena Ochoa shot a first-round 6-under 66 to take the opening-round lead in the LPGA Tour Championship at the Houstonian Golf & Country Club in Texas. Ochoa's round included eight birdies and two bogeys on the 6,650-yard course.

Reilly Rankin was another stroke back in solo second, while Taylor Leon was alone in third at 68. Heather Bowie Young, Kristy McPherson, Yani Tseng and Pat Hurst shared fourth after each shot a 69.

Hot off the first win of her LPGA Tour career in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico, Michelle Wie carded an even-par 72 and is tied for 31st. Jiyai Shin, who is trying to become the first rookie in more than three decades to win the Player of the Year award, shot a 2-under-par 70.
