Nicklaus to Design Running Horse
The developer of Running Horse Golf & Country Club, a development in Fresno, Calif., announced it has selected Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II to co-design the new golf course being built as its centerpiece. This will be the 14th golf course in California designed by Nicklaus, the North Palm Beach, Fla.-based company often considered among world's leading golf course design firms.
Nicklaus Design has 281 courses open for play in 28 countries and 37 states. Of those, Nicklaus has 235 courses open for play worldwide, including 196 solo designs, 11 redesigns and 28 co-designs, including 13 with his oldest son Jack II.
"Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II have such an amazing record of success in golf course design, so we knew they would be an excellent choice," said Running Horse’s managing partner Tom O'Meara. " It is an honor to have one of the game's greatest golfers, as well as one of the game's great designers, lend his experience and expertise to our project. We believe this will be absolutely the best golf experience in the Valley and will become known as one of the best country clubs you can belong to."
The gated community off Highway 180 will consist of 750 home sites, with the majority of the homes alongside the 18-hole layout. The course, which will incorporate water features and undulating terrain, will be capable of hosting tournament play.
Besides the Nicklaus course, Running Horse will feature a 30,000-square-foot Mediterranean-style clubhouse with a pro shop, restaurant and bar, banquet facilities for up to 400, a boardroom for 15-20 guests, wedding and reception facilities, a fitness center and a spa with men's and women's locker rooms.
Nicklaus Design is a privately owned firm led by Jack Nicklaus and the Nicklaus family, including president Jack Nicklaus II. At least 45 Nicklaus Design courses have been ranked in various national or international Top-100 lists, and 77 courses have hosted a combined 500 professional tournaments worldwide or significant U.S. national amateur championships.
