Nicklaus Design Team Shows Up at Running Horse G & CC

In late January, the father-and-son design team of Jack Nicklaus and his son, Jack Nicklaus II, visited one their newest projects, Running Horse Golf & Country Club in Fresno, Calif. The duo walked the project and discussed the current layout and the project’s future plans.

The Nicklaus team addressed the founding members, local dignitaries and media, and provided updates on the progress of the 18-hole track. "The course looks great,” said golf’s Golden Bear. “Jackie did a great job. I didn't change much at all . . . I just added some spice to it.

”Jackie is the main designer on this particular project and I add my comments as we go. The course is going to be a wonderful layout for the members. We've added some nice flavor to it over the last couple of hours.”

Nicklaus added that his course design work is just as rewarding as his illustrious golf career, during which he won 18 major tournaments. Nicklaus Design has built more than 300 courses worldwide. Since retiring from tournament golf last year, the senior Nicklaus has been busy. His stop in Fresno followed trips to Italy, Spain and Florida and before he visits Hawaii and New Zealand.

Expected to open this summer, Running Horse Golf & Country Club is being built within a new like-named golf community in the San Joaquin Valley. Occupying over 220 acres, the layout will serve as the centerpiece of the new real estate development, which covers 484 acres in southwest Fresno. Boasting water features and undulating terrain, the course has been designed to have the capability of hosting professional tournaments, while offering a fair but stiff challenge to club members.
