Newport Dunes Golf Club to Open Next Week
Newport Dunes Golf Club, the centerpiece of an 1,800-acre resort community on Mustang Island in Texas, will open for play September 4 and host a grand opening event on October 18. The 18-hole layout, designed by Arnold Palmer, is part of the first phase of construction at the coastal destination.
The project also involves residential villages, several hotels, a marina, tennis and beach clubs, another golf course and other amenities to Mustang Island, located on the south end of Port Aransas.
Of the more than 300 golf courses and clubs he's designed worldwide, Newport Dunes is Palmer's first seaside destination. "The King" visited the course during construction to meet with resort developers Craig Millard and Charles Castor of Texas Gulf & Harbor Ltd. Palmer commented, "the course is a hidden gem that is certainly going to draw some attention from local, regional and national golfers alike."
"The unveiling of this golf course marks a milestone in the evolution of the Newport Beach and Golf community," said Millard. "We look forward to providing a premier links-style golf experience to Mustang Island."
Newport Dunes, surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico and Corpus Christi Bay, plays to a par 71. Managed by KemperSports, the course features steep-faced, Scottish-style bunkers, expansive waterfront vistas, movement in the fairways and scenic lakes.
