New Tom Fazio Course Coming to Louisiana
In July 2005, work is finishing up on a new Tom Fazio-designed course in Lake Charles, La. The layout is part of L’Auberge du Lac Hotel & Casino, a $365 million Texas Hill Country-themed resort. Maintaining L’Auberge’s philosophy of offering its guests unique experiences, Contraband Bayou Golf Club will become the only public Fazio course in Louisiana when it opens later this summer.
“We at L’Auberge are proud to bring the Lake Charles community a Tom Fazio designed golf course,” said Daniel Lee, CEO and chairman of Pinnacle Entertainment, the resort’s developer. “The Contraband Bayou course is great through and through, with each hole being as memorable as the last.”
Fazio has created award-winning courses throughout the United States; no living designer has more courses on Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses and Golfweek’s America’s Best list. Fazio attributes his success to maintaining a team concept in design. “Golf courses should reflect the natural beauty of their environment, and the new course here at L’Auberge du Lac Hotel & Casino certainly was designed with that philosophy in mind,” said Fazio.
The Contraband Bayou layout is woven into Louisiana’s natural marsh lowlands. When it debuts, the 7,000-yard, par-71 track will offer golfers a tough test thanks to eight lakes and many other hazards in the field of play.
