New Rees Jones Course in Utah Slated for Spring 2009 Debut

Work on the Victory Ranch Club near Park City, Utah, is coming to a close. Designed by Rees Jones, the private 7,600-yard layout is located within a new ranch community. Grassing is expected to be finished later this summer, with the course to be unveiled in spring 2009.

Victory Ranch will be a "core golf course," and has been fashioned to blend into its native topography to offer view corridors within the 5,600-acre community and nearby mountains. The par-72 track will offer multiple tees to accommodate players of all abilities. As an example, the par-3 17th contains an incredible 14 tee boxes. On this hole experienced golfers can opt for a challenging shot across rock formations, or a less skilled player can take an easier approach around the rim.

"The Victory Ranch Golf Course is designed to appeal - both strategically and aesthetically - to players of all abilities," Jones said. "We worked hard to visually define each shot and maximize the diversity of the holes. A blend of hazards, including some intended to save a slightly errant shot from a severe penalty, were carefully located and sculpted."

Victory Ranch recently appointed a golf pro Mike Kutcher and superintendent, Justin Jeffery. Kutcher has nearly three decades of experience, including managing Park City Municipal Golf Course and Park Meadows Country Club, in addition to a recent tenure with the PGA Tour handling tournament operations. Jeffery has been overseeing day-to-day activity during course construction. He boasts nearly 10 years of experience in golf course management at a number of courses, including assisting in the major renovation of Long Cove Club, a top-100 course in Hilton Head Island, S.C., and overseeing the 2005 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic at PGA West.
