New Owners for Makaha Resort Golf Course
Northwynd Resort Properties Ltd. ("Northwynd"), owner of Makaha Resort & Golf Club, has announced the sale of the resort's 18-hole golf course to Hawaiian Golf Properties, LLC ("HGP"). Sale of the course is the first step in the redevelopment of the West Oahu resort. Canada-based Northwynd has owned and operated the 173-room resort and course since July 2010.
"Northwynd and Hawaiian Golf Properties share a common vision for the future of the property," said Patrick Fitzsimonds, CEO of Northwynd. "They have indicated their intent to renovate the course into a world class facility. In turn, we intend to upgrade the resort to complement the redeveloped golf course. We believe this alliance will allow Makaha to attain its full potential as a premier resort."
Makaha golf course will be closed for renovations on May 14. At this time, Northwynd does not anticipate a closure of the resort for refurbishments. The renovation of the resort will be comprehensive. It will include renovation of the front desk, lobby, restaurant, bar, pool, pool building, ballroom and all guest rooms. On-property recreational amenities include tennis, sport courts, and a spa.
Makaha Resort & Golf Club is situated on 330 acres in Makaha Valley. The 7,040-yard golf course, once considered one of Oahu's best, was designed by William F. Bell, architect of Torrey Pines in San Diego. The resort facility is made up of 173 rooms in low-rise cottages, with an ocean view restaurant and lounge, swimming pool, meeting rooms, and multi-purpose sport courts.
