New Golf Community Opening in Tennessee this Fall
Construction is continuing on a 7,100-yard golf course within a new community near Gallatin, north of Nashville. Previously called The Last Plantation at Fairvue, the project’s name has since been shortened to Fairvue Plantation after new developers assumed ownership. The 500-acre project had stalled under the previous developers, but work has resumed and the golf course is on track for a September 2003 grand opening.
The new team, collectively known as TLP Devco, is led by Leon Moore and Chris Wicke. Moore and Wicke had previously joined up to develop Blue Ridge and Indian Ridge in Hendersonville. Their current project is not without historic significance, and the developers plan to preserve that heritage.
“Miss Ellen” Wemyss lived in the historic Fairvue Mansion on the property until her death in June 2001 at the age of 106. Miss Ellen was known for graciously sharing her home and involvement in numerous community projects. Her mansion will be preserved as will the overseer’s house, an old ice house and the stallion and brood mare barns on the property alongside Old Hickory Lake.
“We have 500 acres in a truly beautiful and historic setting that has made it one of the most desirable upscale residential areas around for families seeking something unique,” Wicke told the Nashville Business Journal.
“The signature plantation house, a stately Georgian mansion built in 1832 by prominent landowner Isaac Franklin, is being restored personally by Leon (Moore), who plans to live there. We intend to capitalize on the beauty and history of Fairvue, not commercialize it,” Wicke said.
The property includes five miles of waterfront along Old Hickory Lake, and all utilities will be underground. State-of-the-art technology, including fiber-optic telecommunication lines, will be standard. Besides 650 housing lots and the semiprivate golf course, which will be open to homeowners and Gallatin residents, Moore and Wicks are developing several other amenities at Fairvue Plantation, including:
• A full-service clubhouse with men’s and women’s locker rooms, lounges and a mixed grill.
• A Junior Olympic-sized swimming pool.
• A 75-slip marina for larger boats on Old Hickory Lake.
• A lakeside restaurant with a 2,000-square-foot ballroom, 100 patio seats on the water and 250 more inside.
