New Course in Idaho Panhandle Set to Open with Nine Holes

The initial nine holes of Galena Ridge Golf Course at Silver Mountain Resort in Kellogg are set to open June 20th. Tucked into the hills above Kellogg, Galena Ridge provides mountain views, significant elevation changes and a new golf experience in Idaho's Panhandle.

"The incredible land form provided by Mother Nature allowed us to create tee shots over rugged terrain, wrap fairways around wetlands and tuck greens into wooded draws," said course designer John Thronson of Redmond, Ore.

"What makes the course unique is the amount of elevation change. Several of the first nine holes drop well over 120 feet from tee to green, one of which is an exciting 506-yard par-4 that drops 235 feet." added Thronson.

When the Galena Ridge Golf Course is finished, the total elevation change for all 18 will exceed 450 feet and encompass over 350 acres of terrain.

After nearly four years of development and construction, nine of the planned 18 holes are ready for play. The design work for the remaining holes is nearing completion and construction is expected to commence within the next two years. The course is open to the public and walk-ins are welcome; tee times can be made up to 30 days in advance.

"The formal opening of our new golf course is an important milestone in our resort development," said Jeff Colburn, Silver Mountain Resort general manager. "Just five years ago, the Silver Mountain base consisted of a gondola upload station adjacent to a parking lot.

"We've come a long way since then with over 250 condominiums above a vibrant village, Silver Rapids - Idaho's largest indoor waterpark, and our Galena Ridge golf community well underway," Colburn added.
