Latest Tiger News
Spanning the Internet finds thousands of stories about Tiger Woods, certainly one of the top search-engine subjects - if not the top - in the world. Here are some of the latest headlines from various online sources.
Tiger Spurns $75 Million Irish Deal
Woods has turned down a $75 million sponsorship offer from Irish bookmakers, Paddy Power, the firm revealed Friday. The company made the offer over a five-year period, but after talks with Woods' management company IMG, the bid was rejected.
Yet Paddy Power aims to continue talks before it makes a revised offer. In a statement, Paddy Power said: "Paddy Power remains keen to work with Tiger Woods, and will re-engage with IMG. An enhanced offer will be made, the details of which will remain confidential."
Sabbatini Speaks Out
Rory Sabbatini is one who has never been shy about voicing his opinions. The South African, who now lives in Texas, spoke out about Woods while attending a luncheon hosted by the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, which runs the HP Byron Nelson Championship.
"I think it's going to be interesting to see the reaction of the public to Tiger," Sabbatini said Thursday. "He's always been the 'golden boy' of the spectators. It's definitely going to be interesting to see how people react to that and how they respond to everything that's occurred."
Sabbatini isn't sure when Woods might come back or if he'll play in the year's first major, the Masters. "He's got to do what works for him," Sabbatini said. "You have to be happy at home before you can get your head in the game out there. We know he wants to be at his best when he returns. He has to do what he feels is needed to be in that position."
Sabbatini refuted claims that he and Woods were engaged in a "feud," a situation he said was "media driven."
"It's never really been from him or from myself," Sabbatini said. "Obviously, there's never really been much of a relationship with Tiger. He has his group of friends and that's the way it is."
He expects Woods to perform well when the game's still-No. 1-ranked player returns to competition. "We all know Tiger is a great player," Sabbatini said. "I don't think anybody is going to be disappointed in his performance. I think he'll come back out and play well. We all know you don't just have a talent like that and it disappears. It's going to be there, it's going to return. He's going to be playing well. It's going to be interesting to see how his mental game is and how his head is in regards to keeping his focus.
"It's going to create quite a buzz when he does return and I know there are a lot of fans out there that enjoy watching Tiger play and they are looking for him to return, too."
And When Might that Return Happen?
Woods was spotted Thursday on the driving range at his home course of Isleworth near Orlando.
Various reports cite Woods was practicing putting and driving for about 8½ hours. Though there have been no revelations about his return, it looks like he's keeping his game in shape for that eventuality.
Earlier this week Jack Nicklaus guessed that Woods' first tournament back would be the Masters in April.
Meanwhile, insiders claim that Woods and his wife Elin are working at repairing their marriage, which suffered badly after Woods admitted that he had been involved in many extramarital affairs over the past several years. The couple was married in 2004, and they have two young children.
