More Golf Coming to Horseshoe Bay

In early March the backer of a new golf-related project near the Horseshoe Bay Resort in Texas was moving through the permit process. Brady Oman, the man who developed Northshore on Lake Travis near Austin, was planning an 18-hole golf course designed by Tom Fazio for his Escondido project.
Besides the Fazio-designed layout, the project involves 300 single-family homes and 90 golf course casitas. Oman’s 484-acre site is about 3 miles from Horseshoe Bay Resort on the south side of Lake LBJ. The project is actually closer to the town of Marble Falls.
“(Escondido) will complement Horseshoe Bay (Resort),” Oman told the Austin American-Statesman newspaper in February. “With the new Marriott, there is a lot of activity; there is a lot of good things happening. It’s kind of a boom time right now.”
The revamped Horseshoe Bay Resort Marriott Hotel is slated to re-open in October. The expansion of the popular resort involves 250 more rooms, bringing the total to 349. The hotel is Marriott’s first in the Lone Star State.
Escondido’s homesites – a half-acre and larger – will be priced from $175,000 to $500,000. Among the first takers is PGA Tour veteran and native Texan, Fred Funk. The casitas will range in size from 1,700 to 2,700 square feet, according to Oman. Escondido will also feature various recreational amenities for residents.
Fazio has some experience designing courses in the Hill Country of Texas. His previous works include the original course at Barton Creek Country Club west of Austin, and the Canyons course near Barton Creek. Featuring dramatic vistas and winding creeks, these layouts are regularly ranked among the best in Texas.
