Mickelson Rises to No. 2 in World Golf Ranking
The new World Golf Rankings are out and Phil Mickelson, off his Open Championship victory at Muirfield on Sunday, has risen to No. 2 behind top-ranked Tiger Woods.
The 43-year-old Mickelson closed with a 5-under 67 to match the low round of the tournament, and his 3-under 281 total was the only under-par score over 72 holes at the famed Scottish links.
In addition to recording the fifth major title of his career, it was Mickelson's second victory of the season, following his title in February's Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Despite missing the cut at Muirfield following rounds of 79 and 75, Rory McIlroy is third in the ranking. He began last week at No. 2.
The 24-year-old Northern Irishman is followed in the top-10 by 2013 Masters' winner Adam Scott of Australia, 2013 U.S. Open champion Justin Rose of England, Matt Kuchar, Brandt Snedeker, Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell, and Englishmen Luke Donald and Lee Westwood.
