Mickelson Continues Support of Katrina Relief

Phil Mickelson will miss the Zurich Classic in New Orleans this week but he will be there in spirit. The Phil and Amy Mickelson Charitable Foundation will make a third contribution of $250,000 this year in its continued support of the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.
"We know the rebuilding of New Orleans is a long-term process and Amy and I are committed to doing what we can to help," said Mickelson.
Their first contribution, made days after the 2005 storm, was shared equally by the Louisiana-based foundations of PGA Tour members Kelly Gibson, Hal Sutton and David Toms. Last year's money was channeled through the Zurich Classic's Fore!Kids Foundation and used to build two new homes in the Lower Ninth Ward. This year's pledge has not yet been earmarked.
"I'm really sorry I can't play the Zurich Classic this year but unfortunately it just doesn't work with the revamped PGA Tour schedule," said Mickelson.
He has committed to the EDS Byron Nelson Championship, the Wachovia Championship and the Players Championship over the next three weeks. "Amy and I are thankful, though, to be able to continue our contribution to the reconstruction of New Orleans and proud to be a part of the efforts being made by a lot of hard-working partners."
