McDowell Hurts Hand

Graeme McDowell injured his right hand in a door at his hotel Friday morning before heading to Mission Hills Golf Club to start the second round of the WGC-HSBC Champions now underway in China.

Despite the injury and pain, the 33-year-old Northern Irishman finished the round, posting a 3-over 75. After opening with a 71, he's now tied for 56th at 2-over 146, 18 strokes behind 36-hole leader Louis Oosthuizen.

McDowell's manager, Conor Ridge, said of the injury: "He got it treated (Friday) morning. It was obviously quite sore because he said if feels like it's broken. They've confirmed since that it's not broken, just bruised."

Ridge added that McDowell will decide whether to finish the 72-hole tournament after further tests Friday. After the WGC-HSBC Champions, the 2010 U.S. Open winner is slated to play in Dubai, the Australian Masters and Tiger Woods' World Challenge in California, the final event of his 2012 campaign.

Ridge thinks McDowell will soldier on. "He's not going to want to miss any of them. He won't want to miss the last two rounds here, let's be honest. Hopefully he's okay, but knowing him he'd have to be pretty bad not to play."

McDowell later gave his fans a Twitter update: "Busted up my hand a bit last night . . . had an argument with a door. Nothing broken. Just bruised and swollen. Should be okay for tomorrow."
