Management Team Named for Butterfield Trail Golf Course in El Paso

The City Council of El Paso, Texas, announced its selection of KemperSports as manager of Butterfield Trail Golf Course. KemperSports is currently providing development consulting and will assume management of facility operations upon the course’s opening in the late summer or early fall 2006.
The 18-hole Butterfield Trail is part of a planned multi-use development situated on the northeastern portion of El Paso International Airport. Tom Fazio is handling the design of the daily-fee desert layout, which will serve as a high-end anchor to the airport's surrounding property and business as well as a catalyst for future commercial development.
Fazio will take advantage of distinctive desert landscape – highlighted by natural sand dunes and native flora and fauna – to carve out the par-72 track. Despite the Southwest region's typically flat terrain, the course will feature 55 feet of elevation change in addition to large and small lakes.
The city's Department of Aviation plans to construct an 8,800-square-foot clubhouse to complement El Paso's newest course. Proposals for a resort hotel, located adjacent to the course, are also in the works.
"We're excited that we have the opportunity to partner with KemperSports Management, one of the world's premier golf management companies," said Patrick Abeln, director of aviation at El Paso International Airport. "And we look forward to the economic advantages to be realized not only by the golf course, but by the programmed commercial and resort aspects associated with this development."
