Louisiana Course Opens for Play
The Tom Fazio-designed Contraband Bayou Golf Club at L’Auberge is now open for play. The layout, part of the new L’Auberge du Lac Hotel & Casino in Lake Charles, La., is the Fazio’s first and only daily-fee course in Louisiana.
Prior to its public debut, Contraband Bayou was named “The Best Course” and “The Best Secret” by Texas Golfer magazine in its Neighboring State Division, and among the season’s “most notable debuts and most worthy designs” by Travel + Leisure Golf magazine.
“We at L’Auberge are proud to bring the Lake Charles community the only public Tom Fazio-designed golf course in the state,” said Larry Lepinski, vice president and general manager of L’Auberge. “The Contraband Bayou course is great through and through, with each hole being as memorable as the last.”
Contraband Bayou winds through lowland marshes typical of this part of Louisiana, which didn’t receive too much damage from Hurricane Katarina. The 7,000-yard, par-71 track involves aquatic and natural vegetation as well as eight lakes. “Golf courses should reflect the natural beauty of the environment, and the new course here at L’Auberge certainly was designed with that philosophy in mind,” said Fazio.
Contraband Bayou Golf Club at L’Auberge is open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. March through October, and until 5:30 p.m. November through February. Green fees are $59 Monday through Thursday, $85 Friday through Sunday and holidays. To reserve a tee time, call 337/395-7220.
