Let There Be Light, Shirley

The Links at Shirley, Long Island’s only public golf facility with a regulation-length 18 and an adjoining 18-hole par-3 track, recently announced it’s launched the “Long and the Short of It.” This special promotion enables early evening golfers to finish their rounds on the short course, which is illuminated for night-time play.
According to Mel Mindich, developer and operator of the Links at Shirley, golfers who begin their 18-hole round on the par-72 championship public course after 5:30 p.m. are guaranteed they will be able to finish their round on the lighted course after dark.
“We’re the only facility in the region that guarantees golfers 18 holes of uninterrupted play at twilight rates,” Mindich said. “It’s the charm of The Links at Shirley. Challenging courses. Great location. Great facility. Great convenience.”
Opened in 2000, the Links at Shirley is a 207-acre property off the William Floyd Parkway, only 1,000 yards from the Great South Bay. Designed by Florida architect Jeff Meyers, the facility features a 7,000-yard course and a par-3 18 that is open day and night. Of the shorter layout, Mindich says, “The par-3 course is no-pitch-and-putt but rather an engrossing executive course that will allow golfers to practice their iron game,” he said.
The Links at Shirley also features a double-ended driving range, a large practice area, and a clubhouse with a full-service pro shop and restaurant. It also offers preferred tee-time memberships, Tuesday night leagues, weekday membership, a Saturday 32-member Men’s League, a PGA and LPGA learning center with individual and group lessons and clinics, a Junior Golf Academy June 30th – August 29th for students six through 16, and facilities for corporate and charity outings.
“Our comprehensive services coupled with our dual public courses allow men and women golfers the opportunity to experience the country club feel, without the large financial commitment of most country clubs or the restricted access that many women golfers experience,” Mindich said.
