La Costa Unveils Upgraded Practice Facility |
|
A $1.5 million practice complex is now in operation at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. "This is an outstanding place for golfers of all ages to enjoy improving their game," said Desi Howe, the director of golf at La Costa. "The renovation now gives us a learning center that meets the high standards expected of La Costa, and illustrates the vision La Costa has for creating a balanced golf program."
The new facility is the home of the Roger Fredericks Golf Swing Flexibility Program and headquarters for the La Costa Junior Summer Golf Academy. As part of the resort’s commitment to junior golf, boys and girls ages 17 and younger can play a round of golf each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for $49, starting after 1:30 p.m., and an accompanying adult can play for $99.
The range renovation began in late February, expanding the facility from 4.5 acres to 10 acres. It involved installing new sod, drainage and irrigation; adding two hitting "wings" at the west and east ends of the facility; and placing the putting and chipping greens in between the wings. Raised target greens were built at varying distances and the enclosure received new netting. A new short-game area features two greens and bunkering.
"We could not be more pleased with the results of this project, which more than doubles the size of our pre-existing range," Howe said. "It is one of the significant projects that are ongoing to enhance what already is a world-class golf experience at La Costa."
La Costa's two courses – the North Course and South Course – feature classic design elements that take advantage of the resort’s location in the foothills of Carlsbad, 35 miles north of San Diego. The resort involves 400 acres and is surrounded by high-end homes.
